Marilyn Monroe The Toosh captures a playful yet revealing moment from the 1954 filming of The Seven Year Itch. The subway fans push her white halter dress high, and Monroe turns slightly, her back and figure outlined in the spotlight. It’s a cheeky angle — one that shows how much fun she could have with the scene, even as hundreds of people pressed in to watch.
George Zimbel valued these off-balance moments, when performance tipped into spontaneity. While the crowd shouted “More, more!” and Billy Wilder orchestrated yet another take, Monroe gave the cameras something both glamorous and humorous. Zimbel, shooting quietly with his Leica, caught the spirit of the night: a mix of spectacle, professionalism, and play.
