Marilyn Monroe, The Squat is one of George Zimbel’s most intimate photographs from the 1954 filming of The Seven Year Itch. In this rare pose, Monroe crouches slightly, steadying herself against the upward rush of air as her white dress continues to billow above the subway grate.
The atmosphere that night was electric — hundreds of onlookers, a film crew, police officers, and over twenty photographers packed onto the corner of Lexington Avenue. Amidst the noise and commotion, Zimbel worked quietly with his Leica, capturing moments that revealed Marilyn not only as an icon but also as a professional immersed in her craft.
